Sharing Shakespeare with Tim Carroll

Tim Carroll is an international award winning director who has produced stunning theatre and opera performances in leading theatres throughout Europe and North America. He first met Shakespeare Link’s Artistic Directors, Phil and Sue, at the English Shakespeare Company in the early 1990’s. They went on to work closely together, touring America with Shakespeare Link’s award winning production of ‘God Say Amen’ and directing Phil as Prospero in a highly acclaimed production of Tempest in Maidstone prison. As Associate director of the Globe his productions of Twelfth Night and Richard III enjoyed record-breaking runs in the West End and a Tony Award-winning visit to Broadway. Tim’s approach to Shakespeare is often labelled with the ‘Original Practices’ tag, with a focus on metre and all male cast. But as a founder member of the experimental theatre group The Factory in London, ‘a group who gained a cult following with the guerrilla performances of Hamlet’ across secret locations across London, he has been known to fruitfully break the rules. He will be talking about his work, Shakespeare and theatre with Jamie. It will be an entertaining and bracing dip into the life and times of a working director.
